The Hospice Foundation of America is conducting its 19th annual teleconference from 1 – 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1 at the First Church of Christ in Altoona located at Juniata Gap and Good Shepherd Roads (half a mile past the main entrance to Penn State Altoona).

 The teleconference will focus on “End-of-Life Ethics” and is sponsored by the Altoona Regional Health System, Home Nursing Agency and CONTACT Altoona The registration fee is $10. That fee is waived for employees of Altoona Regional Health System, Home Nursing Agency and CONTACT Altoona.

The main topics of discussion will address four questions: Why should we look at ethics in end-of-life care? How do we decide ethical issues? Who decides ethical dilemmas? What should be decided? Several local healthcare professionals and educators will join six panelists from around the nation during the teleconference for question and answer segments and discussion. Local panelists include Tony Conrad, Pastoral Care Department, Altoona Regional Health System; Rabbi Audrey Korotkin, Temple Beth Israel, Altoona; Amy Swindell, D.O., Home Nursing Agency Hospice Medical Director; Piper Tanner, Home Nursing Agency Home Health and Hospice Social Worker and Vicki Wertz, Altoona Regional Health System Compliance/Privacy Officer.

Continuing education credits (CEUs) are available for a variety of professionals including nurses, social workers, clergy, funeral directors, psychologists, counselors, physicians, case managers and nursing home administrators. During the teleconference, participants will be provided instructions for obtaining CEUs online via the Hospice Foundation of America website. Those who register for CEUs online will be charged a discounted CEU fee of $25. For those wishing to register for CEUs at the teleconference, the fee will be $35 and participants must bring their professional license numbers and payment to the teleconference. No exceptions.
